Answers
Q: How much will my project cost?
A: Most projects can be produced with a flat rate, for which you will receive a quote shortly after our initial consulation. This rate is based on my hourly rate and my estimated time to complete your project.
Q: What will the turn around time be for my project?
A: While it is difficult to predict the exact turn around time for any project, I can tell you that it depends on several variables, not the least of which is the active participation of the client on the project. If the client is timely in regards to delivering content for the project and returning phone calls or emails, we can keep turn around time to a minimum.
Also, in most cases, I can have your initial design concepts ready within just a few days. This depends on the complexity of the project.
Q: Do you provide printing?
A: If you don't already have a print service in mind, I can take care of that for you. However, there will be an additional charge for printing and shipping your items.
You are also welcome to use any other print service that you prefer. It is important to note that I do not accept any liability for printing services.
Q: Where does my content come from?
A: Ideally, content is supplied by the client. No one else will know your business the way that you do.
Q: Can you help me with my content?
A: I would be happy to assist you in developing your content from an outline or notes that you have assembled. I can also help you edit your content. In most situations, I can not create your content from scratch.
The process of developing your content is called 'copywriting' and is a separate process from design. There will always be an hourly charge for help with copywriting.
Q: What about images?
Images should either be provided by the client or they should be purchased from a stock image provider such as Getty Images or Istockphoto. You MUST own the legal right to use images. They can not be taken from other sites, etc. without permission. This is a part of the process that will be discussed at length during our consultation.
Q: What if I don't have a domain name or a web host?
A: If you don't have a domain or host, I can take care of that for you. Domain registration is free of charge when you purchase my hosting package.
Q: Can you design a larger site?
A: While I specialize in brochure web site design, I can design a site that is larger. I can incorporate elements like Flash and even some Java applications. However, I do not design sites with shopping carts or anything with web 2.0.
If you should need something more complex for your site, I can either outsource that aspect of the site to another designer or I can refer you to someone who can.
Q: Will I be required to make a deposit on my project?
A: A deposit of 25% of the estimated cost of your project will be required before any work will begin. Although there are always going to be special circumstances, this deposit is generally non-refundable.
Q: What if I am not happy with my final product?
A: As long as you have been thorough and thoughtful in completing your questionnaire and have kept open communication with me throughout the process, this should never be the case. By the time we have produced your final product, you will have become quite familiar with every aspect of it and you will have had plenty of input.
Q: What if I change my mind about what I want?
A: Minor changes and alterations to your project are considered revisions. You are entitled to two (2) rounds of revisions during the development process in additon to a final round of minor revisions and bug fixes after you have received your beta version.
If you should decide to take your project in an entirely new direction once the design phase is begun, or start over from scratch, this is considered a redo and will be treated as an entirely new project.
Q: What if I don't like any of my intial three (3) design concepts?
A: If you don't like your initial design concepts at all, then I am probably not the designer for you. This should never be the case, though, if you have taken the time to look at my portfolio and if you have presented me with enough information regarding what you want in your design.
If you see potential in any of the designs then we are off to a great start. Please keep in mind that your initial concepts are not your final product, they are only starting points, and the look and feel of your design can change considerably during the process.
Q: Do I have to sign a contract?
A: This depends on the scope of your project. If your job is simple and you are willing to pay in advance, then you may not be required to sign a contract.
Additonally, all web design projects do require a contract.
